What exactly is vein disease?

Varicose and Spider Veins are a very common problem. It is estimated that 50 percent of the adult population suffers from some degree of vein disorder and disease. Many people seek treatment for cosmetic reasons, but they can also cause tired, achy, heavy, and swollen legs; produce a burning, throbbing, or itching sensation; and cause muscle cramps and a general restlessness in the legs. Over time, more serious complications may result.

Are my symptoms from vein issues?

The symptoms listed below are some of the most common causes of vein disease. If you have experienced one or more of these symptoms, you should schedule a consultation and ultrasound with Utah Vein Specialists.

  • Large veins that are visible on the surface of the skin with a purple, dark red, or blue color.
  • Leg veins with a bulging or knotty appearance
  • Leg pain, ranging from a dull ache to sharp pains.
  • Swelling or discoloration of the legs and ankles
  • Restless Leg Syndrome, or muscle cramps that interfere with sleep

What could be causing my symptoms?

Preceding your treatment with us here at Utah Vein Specialists, we will review your case and look for any other variables that might be causing your symptoms. Other causes might be arthritic hips and knees, sciatica, heart-renal-or liver failure, dermatological conditions, arterial insufficiency, spinal stenosis, primary restless leg syndrome among other issues.

Why do my legs and ankles hurt?

Pain, soreness, heaviness, exhaustion and other feelings of discomfort are most commonly caused by swollen veins within the leg. Dysfunctional vein valves are unable to hold up blood. This causes blood to sink down towards the ankles and feet, leaving any veins below this with intense pressure. This dilates the veins, putting pressure on nearby nerves which results in pain and discomfort.

Vein disease may also lead to night cramps. Throughout the day, fluid collects in the veins below the failed valves. During the night, muscles work together to push the built-up fluid out of the legs. When both the flexor and extensor muscles are working together, it causes a “Charley Horse,” an intense muscle cramp.

What’s wrong with my legs?

Here at Utah Vein Specialists, we will do our best to evaluate and identify the source of your discomfort. We will analyze your legs, searching for abnormalities in swelling levels, skin, and  surface vessels (varicose, spider and reticular veins). Symptoms are evaluated and assessed, including pain, cramps, swelling, burning, and itching. After this, we will perform a thorough ultrasound of the veins and vessels of each leg. This will help us determine whether or not veins are the explanation for your pain.

How can I make my legs look better?

Utah Vein Specialists offer reliable, practical and modern vein treatments, including sclerotherapy, ambulatory phlebectomy, and VNUS closure procedure. Click here to read more about our vein treatments. Here are some things to keep in mind when finding treatment for your veins

  1. Get an ultrasound. An ultrasound will ensure that all issues are found and addressed and make sure your treatment is as thorough as can be.
  2. Stick to modern procedures. Steer clear from vein stripping, saline injections and other out of date treatments. These procedures may cause scarring and will not improve the look of your legs.
  3. Do not wait. Once veins are damaged, the condition of your legs will slowly decrease. Problems left over long periods will cause lasting issues and damage to your legs. It is best to get treatment as soon as possible. Schedule your free consultation here.

Why do I need an ultrasound evaluation for a cosmetic problem?

To ensure the best and most permanent results, it is best to look at the source of your problem. Simple surface treatments will not entirely remove vein problems from your legs. Ultrasounds will help us here at Utah Vein Specialists identify and completely resolve any issues in your veins. These medical procedures will provide you with lasting cosmetic benefits.
